CORE PURPOSE

We require an innovative, forward-thinking Teacher of ICT and Computer Science to deliver outstanding digital skills and programming instruction across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5. Operating within a progressive secondary academy, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical curriculum designed to foster deep computational thinking, algorithmic reasoning, and confident software design skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE and A-Level Computer Science public examinations and vocational IT certifications.

THE SCHOOL

Our Essex-based academy operates as an ambitious, inclusive secondary school dedicated to high academic standards, digital innovation, and cultivating technical literacy for the modern workforce. The campus features state-of-the-art computer suites, dedicated programming labs, and a collaborative, technologically integrated staff culture. Our behaviour management framework is built upon clear expectations, consistent routines, and mutual respect, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful learning environment that allows pupils to safely engage in collaborative coding projects and independent technical research.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Advanced Computing & Code Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality computing lessons across all key stages, embedding practical programming modules to build proficiency in Python, HTML/CSS, SQL, and database structures.

  • GCSE & A-Level Component Tracking: Guide examination cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal theory papers and Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) programming projects, meticulously tracking development documentation to ensure high-grade boundary retention.

  • Curriculum Design & Innovation: Formulate and update a dynamic Key Stage 3 curriculum that bridges foundational digital literacy with modern computer science principles, actively boosting student uptake at the GCSE and post-16 options level.

  • Closing Digital Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers, deploying targeted scaffolding, visual logic models, and code-along interventions to accelerate progress for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).

  • Community Pastoral Care: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering digital citizenship and online safety units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics and exceptional practical code outcomes in terminal public GCSE and linear A-Level examinations through structured, high-impact pedagogy.

  • Inclusive & Dynamic Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive STEM education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to stretch high-achieving programmers while building baseline digital confidence in pupils of all abilities.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • Digital Innovation & Expanding Tech Corridors: Based in the county of Essex, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity positioned within a rapidly growing technology, logistics, and digital innovation sector. The close proximity to major digital infrastructure hubs, research parks like Adastral Park, and the London-Stansted-Cambridge tech corridor provides rich, real-world links for networking, cyber security, and automated computing modules, connecting classroom algorithms directly to expanding regional enterprise.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent East of England transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M11, A12, A127, and M25 motorways. Public transit networks run seamlessly across the county and Greater London, utilizing comprehensive local bus routes alongside major rail links, including Greater Anglia and c2c services, providing rapid access for professionals commuting from Chelmsford, Colchester, Southend, or London.
