We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled Music Teacher to inspire pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with Key Stage 5 opportunities). Working closely with the Head of Performing Arts, the successful candidate will deliver engaging practical and theoretical music lessons, lead extracurricular ensembles, and foster a lifelong appreciation for music and performance across the school community.

The school is set across an expansive campus featuring state-of-the-art music suites, recording studios, practice rooms, and a fully equipped performance hall. This energetic secondary school serves over 1,100 pupils across Essex and combines strong academic standards with a rich tradition in the creative arts. The Music department functions as a lively cultural hub where students engage with diverse genres, performance, and music technology in a supportive, creative environment.

Key Tasks & Daily Operations:

  • Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver high-quality music lessons covering performance, composition, listening, and music theory across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • GCSE Support & Practical Assessment: Prepare students for GCSE Music examinations, guiding composition portfolios, performance recitals, and appraising coursework.
  • Ensemble & Extracurricular Leadership: Direct school choirs, bands, orchestras, or contemporary music ensembles, running regular rehearsals and leading school productions and concerts.
  • Music Technology & Resources: Utilize digital audio workstations (DAWs), keyboards, and traditional instrumentation to enhance music learning and production.
  • Pastoral & Whole-School Contribution: Act as a dedicated form tutor, supporting pupil well-being and contributing to assemblies, seasonal showcases, and local community performances.

Profile Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a degree in Music, Music Performance, or a related discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced educators are equally encouraged to apply.
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Music at secondary level (KS3/KS4) within a UK mainstream school.
  • Skills: Strong instrumental and/or vocal proficiency, expertise in music theory and composition, familiarity with music software, and the ability to inspire musical confidence in pupils of all abilities.
