We require an exceptionally patient, creative, and adaptive Modern Foreign Languages specialist to deliver French language and cultural instruction within our highly regarded special school setting. The role involves adapting foundational language acquisition concepts—including core vocabulary, phonics, and basic conversation—to engage, inspire, and support pupils with a diverse range of special educational needs (SEN).
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Differentiated Lesson Delivery: Plan, modify, and facilitate sensory-rich, highly visual French lessons that accommodate a wide spectrum of cognitive, communication, and learning requirements.
Communication & Engagement: Leverage multi-sensory communication tools, interactive storytelling, and authentic cultural materials to build linguistic confidence and curiosity across all year groups.
Individualized Progress Tracking: Maintain meticulous records of pupil milestone achievements, tailoring learning outcomes against Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work in close synchronization with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and a dedicated team of specialist teaching assistants to ensure an entirely cohesive learning environment.
Pastoral & Nurture Care: Lead a dedicated form or nurture group, overseeing daily morning check-ins, monitoring emotional wellbeing, and building highly supportive, empathetic relationships with families.
ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE
Special School Framework: Operating as a dedicated special educational needs school, our specialist institution focuses entirely on providing a highly adapted, therapeutic, and inclusive curriculum for pupils with complex learning profiles, severe learning difficulties, or autism.
Behaviour Systems: The campus implements highly consistent, positive behaviour support (PBS) models and school-wide decompression routines that maintain a quiet, respectful, and orderly atmosphere, ensuring classrooms remain exceptionally calm, secure, and regulated.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree or native fluency in French.
SEN Aptitude: Previous experience or a profound, demonstrated commitment to working within a special school or alternative provision framework, with an understanding of adaptive teaching strategies.
Emotional Resilience: An exceptionally warm, patient, and highly adaptive interpersonal style, capable of maintaining absolute professional calm and positive reinforcement under complex situational pressures.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Strategic Coastal & Rural County: Set within the expansive county of Essex, the school benefits from a unique regional dynamic that bridges thriving commuter towns with tranquil rural and coastal communities.
Connectivity: The area offers excellent transit links, providing efficient local commuting options via major trunk networks (A12, A127, M11 corridors) and direct rail links connecting smoothly across the region and into Greater London.
