CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking a proactive, strategic Premises Manager to take overall responsibility for the physical environment, security, maintenance, and health and safety of our school campus. Working closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager, the successful candidate will lead the site team, manage capital projects and external contractors, ensure statutory compliance, and maintain high standards across all school facilities.
THE SCHOOL
Set in a bright, modern campus featuring expansive outdoor sports grounds and dedicated community spaces, this energetic primary academy serves over 400 pupils across North London. The school provides a warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment where facilities management plays a vital role in day-to-day success. The site management function acts as an essential operational engine, utilizing digital compliance logging and planned preventative maintenance routines to ensure all buildings, grounds, and resources remain safe, secure, and fully optimized for learning.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
- Premises Leadership & Budgeting: Manage daily campus operations, delegate site maintenance tasks, manage premises budgets, and contribute to long-term estate planning.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Lead on whole-school health and safety protocols, conducting statutory risk assessments, fire safety checks, water hygiene (legionella) testing, and COSHH audits.
- Contractor & Project Management: Supervise external service providers and contractors (HVAC, catering equipment, grounds maintenance), ensuring value for money, compliance, and quality of delivery.
- Site Security & Emergency Response: Oversee perimeter security, alarm systems, and CCTV operations, serving as a primary keyholder and leading response routines for out-of-hours emergencies.
- Team Supervision & Upkeep: Line-manage premises and cleaning personnel, coordinating schedules for routine repairs, decorating, DIY tasks, and deep cleaning schedules.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
- Qualifications: Recognized qualification in facilities management (e.g., IWFM), IOSH Managing Safely, or a relevant building trade qualification. First Aid and Manual Handling certifications preferred.
- Experience: Proven track record in premises management, site caretaking leadership, or facilities operations—ideally within an educational setting, academy trust, or public facility.
- Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, practical maintenance expertise, strong team management capabilities, and proficiency in digital facilities software.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
- Local Area & Community: Based in the thriving North London borough of Enfield, the school serves an ambitious, culturally rich, and diverse suburban community. The area offers an attractive mix of historic market hubs, modern shopping districts, and expansive green spaces like Forty Hall Estate and Trent Park.
- Transport & Commuting: Enfield benefits from outstanding transport connections, with rapid road access via the A10 (Great Cambridge Road), A406 (North Circular), and M25 motorway corridor (Junction 25). Public transit is extensive, featuring direct London Overground links (Enfield Town, Silver Street), Great Northern rail services, and Piccadilly Line Underground access (Oakwood, Cockfosters), providing fast routes into Central London and Hertfordshire.
