Salary: Β£23,000 β Β£26,500 per annum (depending on experience)

About the School:
We are seeking to appoint a reliable, practical, and hardworking School Caretaker on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Darlington. The school pride itself on maintaining a safe, clean, and warm learning environment for its pupils and staff. Joining a dedicated site team, you will play an essential role in the daily operations, safety, and security of the entire school estate.
Key Responsibilities:

Act as a primary keyholder, managing the secure opening and closing of the school buildings and grounds.

Carry out routine building maintenance, minor plumbing, joinery tasks, and DIY repairs across the site.

Monitor, operate, and log checks on the school heating, lighting, and security systems.

Oversee health and safety compliance, including regular fire alarm testing, water hygiene checks, and clear emergency egress.

Manage external contractors on-site and assist with cleaning duties, litter picking, gritting in winter, and heavy lifting/moving of furniture.
Requirements:

Proven experience in caretaking, site management, facilities, or a skilled trade (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or general building maintenance).

Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and COSHH guidelines.

Ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage a varied daily workload.

Excellent interpersonal skills with a polite and helpful manner when interacting with school staff, visitors, and contractors.
