English Teacher Role in a Selective Academy

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and academically rigorous lessons that inspire a lifelong love of literature and language.

Students study a rich curriculum including Shakespeare, modern and classic prose, poetry, drama, rhetoric, creative writing, and linguistic analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language qualifications while developing their analytical, evaluative, and written communication skills.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through reading initiatives, creative writing competitions, debating, theatre visits, literary societies, and enrichment opportunities that broaden students' appreciation of English beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations

  • Develop students' analytical, creative writing, and communication skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

  • Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives

  • Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

  • A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
