About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons that develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills.

Students study a diverse curriculum including Shakespeare, classic and contemporary literature, poetry, drama, creative writing, and language analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging independent thought, confident communication, and academic excellence.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through literacy initiatives, book clubs, theatre visits, debating competitions, creative writing workshops, and enrichment activities that foster a genuine enthusiasm for English.

Key Responsibilities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

  • Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives

  • Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

  • A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
