English Teaching Role in a Coastal Secondary School

About the Role

You will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire a passion for reading, writing, and literary study.

Students explore a diverse range of texts, including classic literature, contemporary fiction, drama, poetry, and non-fiction, developing strong analytical, interpretative, and creative writing skills.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, supporting them in achieving excellent outcomes and progressing to higher education and a broad range of future careers.

Working within a collaborative and supportive department, you will contribute to curriculum development, literacy initiatives, and enrichment opportunities that promote a culture of reading throughout the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English Language and English Literature across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and academically challenging lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Develop students’ analytical, interpretative, and creative writing skills

  • Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback

  • Monitor progress and implement targeted intervention strategies

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support literacy programmes, reading initiatives, and enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level English

  • Experience working within a secondary school setting

  • Ability to contribute to literacy and reading initiatives

  • Strong track record of examination success and pupil progress
