A highly regarded 'Outstanding' secondary school in Wandsworth is looking to appoint a talented Design Technology Technician to join its thriving DT department. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of a well-resourced department and play a key role in supporting students with practical and creative learning.
The Opportunity
Working alongside experienced DT teachers, you will help ensure the department operates safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for preparing practical lessons, maintaining workshop equipment and providing hands-on support to students during lessons.
The school has excellent workshop facilities and modern CAD/CAM equipment, providing an ideal environment for someone who enjoys working with a wide range of materials, machinery and practical technologies.
What You'll Be Doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Preparing timber, metals, acrylics, plastics, tools and other materials for practical lessons.
- Setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for KS3, GCSE and A-Level lessons.
- Maintaining and checking workshop machinery, including band saws, pillar drills, sanders, 3D printers and laser cutters.
- Supporting students and teachers during practical sessions.
- Ensuring all workshop activities are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.
- Managing stock, ordering materials and keeping equipment and resources organised.
- Completing routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Helping to maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop environment.
What We're Looking For
This school would ideally like to appoint someone who has previous experience as a DT Technician, although applications are also welcomed from candidates with relevant practical experience in areas such as:
Carpentry | Engineering | Product Design | Manufacturing | Construction | Workshop-Based Roles
You should have a good understanding of workshop tools and machinery, be confident working independently and have a naturally practical and proactive approach.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM, 2D Design, SolidWorks, 3D printing or laser cutting would be an advantage, although training may be available for the right candidate.
