The Opportunity
Derby is a city built on the foundations of mathematical precision and engineering excellence—from its historic rail heritage to its status as a global leader in aerospace and nuclear technology. We are seeking an intellectually rigorous and inspiring Maths Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ secondary academy. In this role, you will equip students with the numerical fluency and logical reasoning required to thrive in a city that continues to drive the UK’s technological and industrial innovation.
The Department & Academic Standard

-
As an “Outstanding” setting, we utilise advanced digital learning platforms and data-driven insights to provide a highly personalised curriculum for every learner.
-
We maintain active links with Derby’s premier engineering firms and the University of Derby, highlighting the vital role of mathematics in modern robotics, data science, and sustainable energy.
Core Responsibilities
-
Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge Mathematics lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with significant opportunities for A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics for suitably qualified candidates.
-
Mathematical Fluency: Ensuring students master fundamental and advanced operations, including algebraic manipulation, geometric reasoning, and statistical analysis.
-
Problem-Solving Leadership: Cultivating students’ ability to apply mathematical models to complex, non-routine problems, fostering resilience and logical thinking.
-
Data-Driven Progress: Utilising the academy’s robust assessment framework to provide granular feedback, ensuring students are equipped to meet the rigorous demands of GCSE and A-Level specifications.
-
STEM Integration: Collaborating with the Science and Technology faculties to demonstrate the cross-curricular applications of mathematics in engineering and the physical sciences.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject authority who believes that mathematical competence is the gateway to professional and intellectual success. Requirements include:
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
-
Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE and A-Level, with a deep understanding of AQA, Edexcel, or OCR assessment objectives.
-
Instructional Precision: The ability to demystify abstract concepts—such as calculus, trigonometry, and probability—making them accessible to students of all abilities.
-
Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to participate in collaborative planning and the development of world-class teaching resources.
Why Join Us?
-
The chance to work in an “Outstanding” environment where student behaviour is exemplary and Mathematics is held in the highest academic regard.
