Salary: £120 – £160 per day (dependent on experience) / £26,000 – £31,000 per annum equivalent

About the Role

Wayman Education is currently recruiting an empathetic and meticulous School Safeguarding Officer to join a welcoming secondary school community in Darlington. In this essential pastoral role, you will work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), school leadership team, and local authority services to maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all pupils. You will act as a key point of contact for daily child protection concerns, coordinate early help plans, and support vulnerable students to ensure their wellbeing and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Triage & Management: Monitor, record, and manage daily safeguarding and child protection concerns using CPOMS.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Partner with Darlington Borough Council Children’s Services, health professionals, and external agencies to attend core groups, child protection conferences, and TAC (Team Around the Child) meetings.
  • Early Help Support: Assess student needs, implement targeted early intervention strategies, and monitor outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • Student & Family Guidance: Build positive, trusting relationships with students and families facing pastoral, attendance, or social challenges.
  • Compliance: Ensure all records, reporting, and safeguarding procedures strictly adhere to statutory Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.

Requirements

  • Experience: Prior experience in a school safeguarding, pastoral, or child protection role within a UK educational environment.
  • Statutory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of KCSIE, working together to safeguard children frameworks, and local referral processes.
  • System Knowledge: Practical working experience with CPOMS (or equivalent safeguarding management software).
  • Skills: Excellent communication, active listening, and conflict-resolution abilities, with a discreet and professional approach to handling sensitive information.
  • Vetting: An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).
