School Receptionist – Darlington

Job Title: School Receptionist

Location: Darlington, County Durham

Salary: Β£22,500 – Β£25,000 per annum (pro-rata, Term-Time Only)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the School:

We are seeking to appoint a welcoming, professional, and highly organized School Receptionist on behalf of a thriving primary school in Darlington. As the first point of contact for parents, visitors, and pupils, you will play a vital role in representing the warm, community-focused values of the school. Joining a close-knit office team, you will enjoy a supportive working environment and comprehensive training on our internal systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the professional face of the school, greeting parents, contractors, and visitors warmly and managing the visitor sign-in system.

  • Answer the main telephone line, handling queries efficiently, taking accurate messages, and transferring calls to relevant staff members.

  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and central school email correspondence.

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support, including updating pupil data on the management information system, typing letters, and filing.

  • Assist with managing late arrivals, signing pupils in and out of the building, and coordinating first-aid or student welfare calls where required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a receptionist, customer service, or administrative role (experience within an educational setting is highly advantageous but not essential).

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm, professional, and empathetic phone manner.

  • Strong IT literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment.

  • High level of discretion and a firm commitment to maintaining confidentiality and strict safeguarding standards.
