Maths Teacher required for a September start in a mixed secondary school based in Colchester. Teaching Mathematics across KS3 and KS4.

Join a department committed to effective teaching and improved attainment in a supportive professional environment with opportunities to share resources and develop practice. Suitable for experienced Mathematics Teachers and ECTs.

The Opportunity:

A secondary school in Colchester is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Mathematics Teacher to join its teaching team. The school is looking for an educator who can make Mathematics accessible, develop students' confidence and encourage learners to approach challenges with resilience and determination.

The successful candidate will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering lessons that develop students' understanding of mathematical principles and their ability to apply these skills accurately. You will help students build strong foundations in number, algebra, geometry, ratio, proportion, statistics and probability while preparing them for the demands of GCSE assessment.

The department recognises that students make progress at different rates and may require different approaches to understanding mathematical concepts. The successful teacher will therefore be able to break down challenging material, identify common misconceptions and use a range of explanations and practice activities to reinforce learning.

A key part of the role will be helping students understand not only how to complete calculations but also why mathematical methods work. By encouraging logical reasoning, effective questioning and structured problem-solving, you will support students in developing skills that can be applied across other subjects and in everyday life.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative setting where teachers can exchange ideas, contribute to curriculum planning and support one another in maintaining high standards. The school welcomes applicants who are enthusiastic, reliable and committed to continuous professional development.

About the School:

Based in Colchester, the school aims to create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to work hard, develop independence and take responsibility for their progress. Staff are expected to establish clear expectations and provide the guidance students need to achieve their academic goals.

The Mathematics department seeks to make learning purposeful and engaging, using carefully structured lessons to develop knowledge progressively. Teachers work to ensure that students receive appropriate support while also providing sufficient challenge for those ready to move beyond the core curriculum.

The successful applicant will contribute to a department where assessment and feedback help inform teaching decisions. By identifying gaps in understanding and providing opportunities for students to practise and refine their skills, you will help improve confidence and prepare learners for important examinations.

The school values staff who combine strong subject knowledge with patience, professionalism and the ability to motivate young people.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver well-planned Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach curriculum topics in a clear, structured and accessible manner.
  • Develop students' numerical fluency, reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Use formative and summative assessment to monitor progress.
  • Identify students requiring intervention and provide targeted support.
  • Prepare GCSE classes for examinations through revision, exam-style questions and feedback.
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation and perseverance.
  • Adapt learning materials for students with differing abilities and educational needs.
  • Maintain accurate assessment records and communicate progress appropriately.
  • Work with colleagues to share resources and improve curriculum delivery.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience or the ability to teach Mathematics at KS3 and KS4.
  • QTS or a recognised teaching qualification suitable for the role.
  • Strong subject knowledge and effective teaching skills.
  • Good organisation, communication and behaviour-management abilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.
