We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and inspiring History Teacher to join the teaching team at a highly regarded private school in Cheltenham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator who enjoys bringing the past to life and encouraging young people to question, analyse and develop their own understanding of historical events and ideas. The Role

As a History Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons that challenge students, develop their historical understanding and encourage curiosity about the world around them.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging History lessons across the relevant Key Stages.
  • Teaching a broad and stimulating range of historical periods, events and themes.
  • Developing students' ability to analyse evidence, evaluate interpretations and construct well-reasoned arguments.
  • Creating a positive and purposeful classroom environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and share ideas.
  • Assessing students' progress and providing constructive feedback to support academic development.
  • Preparing students effectively for GCSE and/or A-Level examinations where required.
  • Differentiating lessons and resources to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, departmental planning and wider academic initiatives.
  • Supporting History-related enrichment activities, trips, societies and other opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.
  • Supporting the wider pastoral and educational life of the school.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for History and the ability to inspire students through engaging, thoughtful and challenging teaching.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A degree or relevant academic qualification in History or a related subject.
  • Previous experience teaching History within a secondary school environment.
  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for historical enquiry and debate.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • The ability to inspire students and develop their confidence, curiosity and independent thinking.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs.
  • A commitment to high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.
  • The ability to work positively and collaboratively as part of a successful department.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
