About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and practical School Site Manager to take full ownership of the security, maintenance, and health and safety compliance at a secondary school campus in Chelmsford. This is a vital, hands-on role where you will ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The school is looking to move quickly and secure the right candidate to start as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilities & Maintenance: Direct the routine maintenance, security, and general upkeep of all school buildings and grounds, performing hands-on minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety legislation, managing routine compliance logging, fire safety checks, water testing, and risk assessments.
  • Contractor Management: Coordinate external contractors on-site, ensuring all servicing, repairs, and project works are completed safely, on time, and to a high standard.
  • Security & Keyholding: Act as the primary keyholder, managing daily lock-up and opening procedures, and responding to emergency out-of-hours call-outs if required.
  • Team Supervision: Support and supervise the site maintenance and cleaning teams to ensure the campus is beautifully maintained and highly functional.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven experience in facilities management, school caretaking, or a relevant building trade background.
  • A strong working knowledge of building compliance, health and safety regulations, and COSHH guidelines.
  • A proactive problem-solver with excellent time-management skills to effectively balance routine tasks and reactive repairs.
  • Clear communication skills to collaborate effectively with school leadership, staff, and external contractors.
  • A full commitment to safeguarding; the successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check.
