About the Role

As Science Technician, you will provide day-to-day technical support across the Science Department. You will prepare equipment and materials for practical lessons, organise laboratory spaces, maintain resources, and help ensure that health and safety procedures are followed consistently.

You will support practical activities across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, working with teaching staff to prepare demonstrations, experiments, and investigations appropriate to different age groups. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment, chemicals, apparatus, and resources for practical science lessons

  • Set up and clear laboratories before and after practical activities

  • Support teachers with demonstrations, experiments, and investigations

  • Ensure laboratory equipment is stored safely and appropriately

  • Maintain clean, organised, and well-presented preparation areas

  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering science resources

  • Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of equipment

  • Follow appropriate health and safety procedures when handling chemicals and equipment

  • Assist with the safe storage and disposal of laboratory materials

  • Report damaged or faulty equipment promptly

  • Maintain accurate records of resources and equipment where required

  • Support the wider Science Department with practical and technical requirements

  • Help ensure laboratories are consistently ready for teaching

Candidate Requirements

The successful Science Technician will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, school, scientific, or technical environment

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • The ability to follow procedures carefully and consistently

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers

Experience supporting practical lessons within Biology, Chemistry, or Physics would be advantageous. Knowledge of COSHH procedures, chemical handling, equipment maintenance, or laboratory stock management would also be beneficial.
