Role: Teacher of French (KS3–KS5)

Location: Cambridge

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Salary: Highly Competitive

Are you an exceptional French Teacher with the academic depth to inspire students aiming for the frontiers of French?

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about their subject, enjoys working with young people, and can make French feel relevant to students. You don’t need to have an answer to every question, but you should be someone who enjoys asking good questions and encouraging students to think for themselves.

The Role

  • Teaching: Deliver engaging French lessons across the secondary age range, developing students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

  • Building Confidence: Encourage students to use French as much as possible, helping them become comfortable speaking, making mistakes, and gradually becoming more fluent.

  • Supporting Progress: Build strong foundations in grammar and vocabulary while challenging students who are ready to take their French further.

  • Academic Support: Support students preparing for GCSE, A-Level, IB, or other senior qualifications, including speaking assessments, extended writing, translation, and exam technique.

  • Bringing French to Life: Use films, music, literature, current affairs, food, travel, and everyday situations to show students how French is used outside the classroom.

  • Wider Opportunities: Get involved in language clubs, trips, exchanges, competitions, and other opportunities for students to use French in a more natural setting.

  • Creating a Positive Environment: Build a classroom where students feel comfortable having a go, asking questions, and making mistakes without worrying about getting everything right straight away.

This is a position for a subject authority who thrives in French

The Candidate

  • Good Academic Background: A degree in French or a related subject would be preferred. Further qualifications or relevant teaching experience would be an advantage.

  • Strong French: Someone who is confident and fluent in both spoken and written French and can help students develop their own confidence and accuracy.

  • Good Communicator: Able to explain grammar and language clearly without making lessons feel overly complicated or repetitive.

  • Makes Lessons Interesting: Someone who can bring French into everyday life through conversation, films, music, culture, current affairs, and real-world situations, rather than simply following a textbook.

  • Supports & Challenges Students: Able to build confidence in students who may struggle with French while also pushing stronger students towards greater fluency, accuracy, and independence.

  • Passionate About Culture: Someone who genuinely enjoys French-speaking cultures and can share that enthusiasm with students, helping them understand why learning another language is valuable.

  • A Positive Role Model: Patient, approachable, and encouraging, with the ability to create a classroom where students aren’t afraid to make mistakes and can enjoy seeing their progress over time.

The Environment

  • Exceptional Cohort: Teach exceptionally gifted students who are consistently ranked among the top in the country for French.

  • Professional Autonomy: Join a department that values expression and encourages the exploration of concepts beyond the standard exam specification.

  • Unrivalled Benefits: A package that reflects the elite status of the school, including a generous salary, private healthcare, and significant professional development grants.
