CORE PURPOSE

We require an inspiring, linguistically precise French Teacher to deliver outstanding French instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities to contribute to post-16 advanced pathways. Operating within an ambitious, oversubscribed secondary comprehensive academy widely celebrated for its strong academic progress and deep community pride, the successful candidate will facilitate a knowledge-rich, immersive curriculum designed to foster high target-language fluency, spontaneous communication, and a sophisticated understanding of francophone culture, preparing all pupils thoroughly for exceptional outcomes in terminal GCSE public examinations.

THE SCHOOL

Our academy operates as a proud, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to raising academic standards, celebrating international outlooks, and serving the wider Cambridge community. The campus features specialized, modern languages classrooms, dedicated digital language lab facilities, and a highly collaborative MFL faculty. Our behaviour management framework relies on strict organizational structures, clear behavioural expectations, and mutual respect, maintaining an exceptionally safe, orderly, and highly purposeful environment where pupils feel secure taking risks with target-language phonics, speech production, and advanced grammatical structures.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • High-Fluency & Target-Language Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-impact French lessons across all attainment pathways, systematically embedding phonics mastery, vocabulary retrieval, and complex grammatical scaffolding to build listening, reading, writing, and speaking confidence.

  • Oracy & Spontaneous Speech Production: Cultivate a vibrant, interactive classroom environment, utilizing low-stakes speaking frameworks and targeted questioning strategies to encourage pupils to speak spontaneously in French, minimizing target-language anxiety.

  • GCSE Performance Optimization: Guide Year 11 examination cohorts meticulously through the rigorous demands of linear terminal papers across all four core skills, utilizing formative test data to isolate and eliminate vocabulary gaps and maximize high-grade boundary retention.

  • Closing MFL Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers within mixed-ability cohorts, deploying visual logic models, sentence-builder frameworks, and scaffolded translation structures to ensure accessibility for SEND pupils while stretching high-prior-attaining linguists.

  • Inclusive Pastoral Support: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, supporting pupil wellbeing, managing daily registration routines, and maintaining proactive, positive communication with families.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in French Studies or Modern Foreign Languages. Native or near-native target language proficiency is required.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics and exceptional performance outcomes in terminal public GCSE examinations through highly structured, systematic, and explicit language pedagogy.

  • Global & Enthusiastic Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, possessing the exceptional communication skills, empathy, and cultural passion required to inspire all pupils with a love for language learning and global citizenship.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • The Silicon Fen & Global Intellectual Intersection: Based in the historic and globally renowned university city of Cambridge, the school capitalizes on a world-class regional identity built upon international scholarship, cutting-edge scientific research, and deep multicultural integration. The city's status as a leading global technology and life-sciences powerhouse ("Silicon Fen"), alongside its prestigious collegiate university networks, provides a rich, real-world backdrop for modern language studies, connecting classroom French directly to high-tier international careers, global business supply chains, and multilingual research sectors.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium Cambridgeshire and East Anglian transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M11 motorway, the A14, and the A11 corridors. Public transit networks operate flawlessly across the metropolitan area, utilizing comprehensive local bus networks and the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway system, alongside Cambridge and Cambridge North railway stations, which provide frequent, high-speed Great Northern and Greater Anglia rail links connecting the school directly to Ely, Peterborough, Norwich, Stansted Airport, and London King's Cross.
