An established and academically ambitious independent school in Cambridge is seeking to appoint an outstanding Design & Technology Teacher to join its thriving faculty. This is an exciting opportunity to teach highly motivated pupils in a well-resourced environment where creativity, innovation and intellectual curiosity are highly valued.
This role offers the chance to teach Design & Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of Key Stage 5 depending on experience and specialism. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad and enriching curriculum that encourages independent thinking, technical precision and high-quality design outcomes.
Class sizes are small, enabling personalised teaching and strong academic support. The department benefits from excellent workshop facilities and a strong culture of craftsmanship and innovation.
Key Areas of Responsibility- Academic Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging and academically rigorous Design & Technology lessons
- Prepare pupils for GCSE and/or A Level examinations with strong outcomes
- Develop pupils’ understanding of the full design process, from concept through to evaluation
- Provide detailed feedback and monitor progress through effective assessment
- Practical & Technical Leadership
- Maintain high standards of workshop safety and compliance
- Support pupils in developing advanced practical skills and independent project work
- Contribute to the ongoing development of departmental resources and facilities
- Enrichment & Wider Contribution
- Support co-curricular activities such as design clubs, STEM initiatives or competition entries
- Contribute to exhibitions, showcases and school events
- Participate fully in the pastoral and academic life of the school
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Demonstrates strong subject expertise within Design & Technology (e.g., Product Design, Engineering, Resistant Materials or similar specialism)
- Has experience teaching at secondary level, ideally including examination classes
- Brings high expectations of pupil achievement and behaviour
- Is committed to contributing to the wider life of an independent school community
- Has the legal right to work in the UK
