A large and inclusive 11–18 secondary school on the outskirts of Burton-on-Trent is seeking a committed English ECT to join its thriving faculty from January 2026.
About the Role
You will teach English across KS3–KS4, delivering a carefully sequenced curriculum that blends classic literature with modern, diverse texts. The department uses shared schemes of learning, but you will also have the freedom to bring your own creativity to lesson delivery. Teachers benefit from excellent literacy resources, a centralised marking policy and a well-organised library that plays a central role in school life.
School Environment
The school is rated Good, well-known for its calm corridors and strong pastoral model. Behaviour systems are fair and consistently supported by senior leaders, allowing ECTs to focus on teaching rather than crowd management. Classrooms in the English block have recently been refurbished, including visualisers, interactive screens and quiet reading zones.
ECT Support
- Weekly meetings with an experienced subject mentor
- Reduced teaching timetable for the first year
- CPD on modelling, scaffolding and adaptive instruction
- Peer observation cycles to support early professional growth
