Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership, management, and curriculum design for the Science department across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5

• Line manage, mentor, and evaluate department staff and laboratory technicians to maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and lab safety

• Oversee the delivery of theoretical concepts and practical required investigations to secure outstanding GCSE and A-Level examination outcomes

• Expand and coordinate an extensive STEM extra-curricular program, including Science Olympiads, robotics teams, and university masterclasses

• Maintain high safety standards across laboratory suites, chemical storage rooms, and equipment inventories in full compliance with CLEAPSS guidelines

• Manage the departmental budget, equipment purchasing, and laboratory allocation effectively

• Serve as a Form Tutor, contributing to the pastoral care, tracking, and wellbeing of your assigned year group

• Shape whole-school STEM initiatives and academic intervention strategies

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will feature:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

• An honors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related scientific discipline

• A proven track record of outstanding Science delivery across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Demonstrated leadership capability (e.g., 2i/c, Key Stage Coordinator, or existing Head of Department)

• Up-to-date knowledge of CLEAPSS safety guidelines, practical assessment requirements, and exam board specifications

• An ambitious, forward-thinking, and energetic approach to departmental leadership
