We are seeking an energetic, organized, and highly resilient Attendance Officer to join a bustling, successful comprehensive secondary school in Bristol. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual with a background in school administration, housing, social work, youth coaching, or emergency services who wants to transition into an impactful educational role. You will spend your days investigating absences, working directly with pupils to motivate them, and ensuring school records are flawless.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure all student absences are accounted for daily, logging detailed, accurate notes on the database.
- Work in partnership with families to identify underlying issues causing poor attendance (e.g., anxiety, bullying, transport problems).
- Conduct targeted home visits within the local Bristol area to engage with parents of persistently absent pupils.
- Collaborate closely with the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Safeguarding teams.
- Assist in compiling legal packages for the Local Authority if attendance enforcement or fines become necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and reassuring telephone manner.
- Competency in data management, reporting, and using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). Prior MIS experience is preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, objective, and supportive under pressure.
- A valid UK driving license and personal vehicle are essential due to the home-visit requirements of the role.
- Commitment to safeguarding children; a full enhanced DBS check will be processed upon appointment.
