This role would suit a Music Teacher who enjoys developing students' practical musicianship while also helping them understand the theoretical and analytical side of the subject.

You will teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering a varied curriculum that allows students to perform, compose, listen and respond to different styles of music.

Music Teacher - The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Planning and delivering Music lessons across KS3

• Teaching GCSE Music at KS4

• Developing students' practical musicianship

• Teaching composition

• Providing opportunities for individual and ensemble performance

• Supporting students with different levels of musical experience

Music Teacher - Music Department

The Music curriculum should give students a genuine opportunity to develop as musicians.

At KS3, students should experience a range of musical traditions while developing performance, composition and listening skills.

At KS4, students undertaking GCSE Music will need to develop their technical and analytical knowledge alongside practical performance and composition.

The successful teacher should be able to balance practical activity with appropriate written and theoretical work.

Music Teacher - Teaching and Learning

The school is looking for someone who can make Music accessible to students regardless of their previous experience.

Some students may already play an instrument, while others may have had limited opportunities to develop their musical skills. You should therefore be able to differentiate effectively and provide appropriate challenge and support.

Lessons should be structured but creative, giving students clear objectives while allowing room for experimentation and individual expression.

Music Teacher - Performance and Enrichment

Performance is an important part of the role.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to support concerts, ensembles, clubs and other musical opportunities throughout the year.

You may also work with students preparing performances for school events and celebrations.

A willingness to contribute beyond timetabled lessons would be highly valued.

Music Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree in Music or a related discipline

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching Music at secondary level

• Strong KS3 Music knowledge

• GCSE Music teaching experience

• Strong practical musicianship

• Knowledge of composition and performance

• Good understanding of music theory

• Excellent classroom management

• Strong organisational skills

• Ability to differentiate

Salary

The salary for this Music Teacher position will be paid to scale on a contract to scale MPS/UPS, depending on experience.
