English Teacher Role in a Grammar School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire students to develop a passion for literature, language, and communication.

Students study a rich curriculum covering classic and contemporary texts, poetry, drama, creative writing, and analytical skills. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging them to think critically, express ideas confidently, and develop a lifelong appreciation of reading and writing.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through debating, creative writing clubs, literary events, theatre visits, reading initiatives, and enrichment opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations

  • Develop students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support enrichment activities, reading programmes, and literary events

  • Foster confidence, creativity, and a passion for English

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level English Literature or Language

  • Experience leading literacy, debating, or creative writing initiatives

  • Ability to contribute to wider enrichment programmes

  • A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
