The Opportunity
Brighton is a city defined by its entrepreneurial spirit, serving as a premier UK hub for the creative, digital, and sustainable technology sectors. We are seeking an ambitious and commercially astute Business Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy. In this role, you will guide students through the complexities of enterprise and strategic management, utilising Brighton’s unique position as a "Silicon Beach" and a centre for independent commerce to bring the curriculum to life.
The Department & Academic Standard
You will join a high-performing Social Sciences faculty where Business is a flagship subject, characterised by high student motivation and exceptional outcomes at GCSE and A-Level. The department fosters a "professional-enterprise" atmosphere, encouraging students to analyse real-world case studies from Brighton’s thriving start-up scene and its global sustainability leaders. As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritise a rigorous academic approach, moving beyond surface-level theory to analyse the actual fiscal and operational decisions of modern corporations. We maintain active links with local business leaders and the University of Sussex Business School, providing students with professional mentoring and unique insights into modern corporate careers.
Core Responsibilities
- Exemplary Instruction: Teaching Business Studies across GCSE and A-Level (AQA/Edexcel), ensuring students master core concepts from marketing and HR to operations and finance.
- Financial Literacy: Training students in the quantitative aspects of business, including break-even analysis, cash flow forecasting, and the interpretation of balance sheets.
- Strategic Analysis: Guiding students through advanced decision-making models, such as SWOT analysis, PESTLE, and the impact of global economics on business strategy.
- Data-Driven Progress: Utilising the academy’s sophisticated tracking systems to provide granular feedback, ensuring students are equipped to meet the high-level evaluative demands of the exam.
- Enterprise Leadership: Coordinating extra-curricular initiatives, such as the Young Enterprise scheme or local "green-tech" challenges, to build students' practical commercial skills.
The Successful Candidate
We are looking for a subject specialist who can translate abstract commercial laws into fascinating real-world insights. Requirements include:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS and a strong honours degree in Business, Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes and a deep understanding of current GCSE and A-Level specifications.
- Instructional Clarity: The ability to demystify complex financial and legal concepts for students of all abilities.
- Professional Passion: A teacher who stays current with global economic trends and is eager to bring contemporary business news into the classroom.
Why Join Us?
- The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and Business is held in high academic regard.
- Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and collaboration with elite practitioners across the region.
- The opportunity to work in Brighton—a city offering an exceptional quality of life, a world-class cultural scene, and a role at the heart of the UK’s most innovative coastal economy.
- A prestigious professional community that values innovation, intellectual rigour, and the career-readiness of every student.
