We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled Music Teacher to inspire students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. Working closely with the Director of Music, the successful candidate will deliver high-calibre academic and practical music tuition, lead elite co-curricular ensembles, prepare students for music scholarship pathways, and champion a culture of performance excellence across the school community.

Set within historic grounds featuring a bespoke performing arts centre, state-of-the-art recording studios, dedicated recitals halls, and steinway-equipped practice suites, this selective independent day school serves over 1,000 pupils aged 11–18 in Brentwood. The school combines outstanding academic achievement with an exceptionally rich musical tradition. The Music department acts as a flagship unit within the institution, running an extensive calendar of public recitals, orchestral tours, and choral showcases in a refined, supportive, and ambitious environment.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Advanced Curriculum Delivery: Design and deliver rigorous academic music lessons covering performance, harmony, music history, and analysis across KS3, GCSE, and A-Level frameworks.
  • Scholarship & Examination Coaching: Mentor music scholars, guiding composition portfolios, audition preparation, and high-level performance recitals for A-Level and conservatory entry.
  • Chamber & Ensemble Leadership: Direct specialist ensembles—including chamber choirs, jazz bands, string orchestras, and wind groups—leading weekly rehearsals and major concert series.
  • Music Technology Integration: Utilize digital audio workstations (DAWs), notation software (Sibelius/Dorico), and professional studio recording systems to enhance student composition.
  • Co-Curricular & Pastoral Role: Serve as a Form Tutor, actively contributing to the school's pastoral framework, house music competitions, and annual international music tours.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Degree in Music or Music Performance from a recognized university or conservatoire. QTS/QTLS is preferred, though exceptional candidates with independent sector experience or high-level professional performance backgrounds are strongly encouraged.
  • Experience: Proven track record of teaching academic music through to GCSE and A-Level, with experience directing high-level musical ensembles.
  • Skills: Exemplary keyboard/piano accompaniment skills, strong vocal or instrumental expertise, deep knowledge of music history/theory, and the ability to stretch and challenge academically gifted students.
