Food Technology Teacher Role in an Academy School

An ambitious Academy School in Birmingham is seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher to join its successful Design & Technology department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Food Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theoretical lessons that inspire students to develop creativity, confidence, and a strong understanding of food science and nutrition.

Students study a varied curriculum covering food preparation, nutrition, health and wellbeing, food science, ingredients, sustainability, and product development. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Food Preparation and Nutrition qualifications while developing their practical skills, independence, and understanding of the wider food industry.

You will also contribute to the wider department through practical workshops, cooking clubs, competitions, community projects, and enrichment activities that encourage students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Food Preparation and Nutrition examinations

  • Develop students’ practical skills, creativity, and confidence

  • Ensure safe and effective use of specialist equipment and resources

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support food-related clubs, competitions, and enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Food Technology or Food Preparation and Nutrition at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge of food science, nutrition, and practical skills

  • Excellent classroom and practical workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition

  • Ability to contribute to wider Design & Technology projects

  • Experience running cooking clubs or enrichment activities

  • A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
