An outstanding primary school in Birmingham is seeking an organised and detail-focused Finance Officer to join its busy school administration team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to play an important role in supporting the school's financial operations and ensuring effective budget management.
The successful candidate will work closely with the School Business Manager and senior leadership team, helping to maintain accurate financial records, process transactions and monitor expenditure. School finance roles typically involve budget monitoring, financial reporting, purchase orders, invoices, reconciliations and maintaining appropriate audit trails.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting information
- Process invoices, purchase orders and payments
- Monitor income and expenditure against school budgets
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasting and financial reporting
- Manage petty cash and school fund transactions
- Complete regular reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Produce accurate financial reports for senior leaders
- Liaise with suppliers regarding invoices and payments
- Support internal and external audit requirements
- Ensure financial procedures comply with school policies and regulations
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in finance, accounts or financial administration
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Good understanding of accounting procedures and budget management
- Confident using financial and data management systems
- Strong Excel and IT skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
- Experience within a school or education setting would be desirable
