Science Teacher Role in a Sixth Form College

A successful Sixth Form College in Bedford is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Science Teacher to join its outstanding Science department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Science at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire students to develop a deeper understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics.

Students follow rigorous GCSE and A-Level programmes, with a strong focus on scientific theory, practical investigation, data analysis, and independent thinking. You will support students in achieving excellent examination outcomes while preparing them for progression into higher education, apprenticeships, and STEM-related careers.

You will also contribute to enrichment opportunities including science societies, research projects, guest lectures, laboratory activities, and university preparation programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Science across KS4 and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and academically challenging lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Science examinations

  • Develop students’ practical, analytical, and independent learning skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching Science at secondary or post-16 level

  • Ability to teach KS4 and KS5 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Science

  • A specialist degree or background in a scientific discipline

  • Experience supporting university applications or STEM pathways

  • A proven track record of strong student outcomes
