Design & Technology Teacher Role in an Ambitious Secondary School

An Ambitious Secondary School in Bedford is seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful DT department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theoretical lessons that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and technical understanding.

The department benefits from well-equipped workshops and specialist resources, allowing students to develop skills across a range of disciplines including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, Graphics, and CAD/CAM technologies where appropriate. You will encourage students to think innovatively while developing confidence in designing, making, and evaluating products.

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers who are passionate about delivering an inspiring Design & Technology curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Promote safe working practices within specialist workshops

  • Assess student progress and provide effective feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support STEM and Design & Technology enrichment activities

  • Inspire creativity, innovation, and technical excellence

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong practical and theoretical subject knowledge

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Ability to teach a DT specialism at KS5

  • Experience with CAD/CAM technologies or engineering pathways

  • Commitment to STEM enrichment and extracurricular activities

  • A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
