The Role

• Strategic Leadership: Managing the Art department to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, and student attainment across KS3, KS4, and KS5.

• Curriculum Design: Oversight of a rigorous and diverse curriculum that balances technical mastery in fine art with contemporary practices, digital media, and art history.

• Team Mentorship: Leading and developing a team of specialist teachers and technicians, fostering a culture of professional scholarship and collaborative moderation.

• Exhibition & Enrichment: Coordinating a high-profile calendar of exhibitions, workshops with visiting artists, and gallery visits to enhance the cultural life of the school.

• Data & Performance: Monitoring student progress with precision to maintain the school’s track record of exceptional results at GCSE and A-Level.

• Resource Management: Overseeing departmental budgets and specialized studios to ensure a world-class environment for creative production.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

• A strong honors degree in Fine Art, Graphic Design, or a related creative discipline; post-graduate qualifications are highly regarded.

• Proven success as an outstanding teacher at all Key Stages, with experience stretching high-attaining grammar school pupils.

• Previous leadership experience (e.g., Head of Subject or Second in Department) with a clear vision for the future of Art education.

• Exceptional organizational skills and a professional, resilient approach to departmental management.

• A commitment to fostering a lifelong passion for the arts and supporting students in their creative career pathways.
