A well-respected secondary school in Basingstoke is seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral support team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with senior leaders, Heads of Year, teaching staff and the safeguarding team, you will provide targeted support to students who require additional guidance with behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing. You will build positive relationships with students, helping them develop confidence, resilience and the skills needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

The successful candidate will be a calm, approachable and empathetic professional who can establish trust with students while maintaining consistently high expectations.

Pastoral Support Team

The pastoral support team works proactively to help students remain engaged in education by providing guidance, intervention and encouragement whenever challenges arise. As Behaviour Mentor, you will support individual students and small groups while working closely with teaching staff to promote positive behaviour across the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one mentoring for identified students.

  • Supporting students with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.

  • Building positive relationships with pupils and their families.

  • Working alongside teachers to implement behaviour strategies.

  • Monitoring student progress and recording interventions.

  • Supporting restorative conversations following behavioural incidents.

  • Encouraging positive attendance and punctuality.

  • Assisting with behaviour support plans and individual targets.

  • Liaising with safeguarding staff and external agencies where required.

  • Supervising students during unstructured times when appropriate.

  • Promoting the school's behaviour expectations and values.

  • Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
