CORE PURPOSE
We are seeking a proactive, skilled Site Manager to take strategic and operational responsibility for the security, maintenance, health and safety, and overall facilities management of our school campus. Working closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager, the successful candidate will lead the premises team, manage external contractors, oversee capital works projects, and maintain a safe, high-quality learning environment for all pupils and staff.
THE SCHOOL
Set in a bright, modern campus featuring expansive outdoor sports zones, specialized early years play facilities, and community hubs, this energetic primary academy serves over 400 pupils across North London. The school combines high educational ambition with a strong commitment to providing a safe, well-maintained physical environment. The site management team serves as an essential operational engine within the school, utilizing digital asset tracking systems and planned maintenance frameworks to keep facilities running smoothly, safely, and efficiently every day.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Strategic Premises Management: Plan and execute statutory maintenance schedules, manage site improvement projects, and oversee daily premises operations across the campus.
Health & Safety Compliance: Serve as the Lead Health & Safety Officer, conducting risk assessments, fire safety checks, water hygiene (legionella) monitoring, and COSHH compliance checks.
Security & Keyholding: Manage site security routines, oversee CCTV and access control systems, respond to emergency alarm call-outs, and maintain perimeter integrity.
Contractor & Project Supervision: Negotiate, monitor, and evaluate external maintenance contracts (HVAC, cleaning, grounds, catering equipment), ensuring work is completed safely and to budget.
Team Leadership & Budgeting: Supervise premises and cleaning staff, delegate maintenance logs, process work orders, and manage the site operational budget alongside the Business Manager.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Relevant qualification in facilities management (e.g., IWFM), building trades, or IOSH Managing Safely. First Aid and Manual Handling certifications are highly desirable.
Experience: Proven experience as a Site Manager, Premises Manager, or Facilities Coordinator within an educational setting, trust, or public sector facility.
Skills: Strong practical maintenance skills, in-depth knowledge of building regulations and health & safety law, proficient IT skills, and strong team leadership capabilities.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
Local Area & Community: Based in the expansive North London borough of Barnet, the school serves an ambitious, culturally rich, and thriving suburban community. Blending historic suburban town centres like Chipping Barnet and High Barnet with bustling commercial districts, vibrant green belt countryside, and vast parks—including Hadley Green, Trent Park, and Friary Park—Barnet offers an outstanding environment for families and educators alike.
Transport & Commuting: Barnet benefits from exceptional regional transport connections, situated with immediate road access via the A1, A41, A406 (North Circular), and M1 motorway corridor (Junction 2/4). Transit connectivity is outstanding, featuring Northern Line Underground branches (High Barnet, Edgware, Golders Green), Thameslink rail services (Mill Hill Broadway, High Barnet), and comprehensive local bus networks providing fast routes into Central London and Hertfordshire.
