A high-achieving secondary school in Barnet is looking for a Science Technician to join its science department from October.

This is a practical role supporting the smooth running of Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons. You’ll work closely with teaching staff to prepare practicals, manage equipment and make sure laboratories are ready for lessons.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare and set up practicals, experiments and demonstrations.

  • Organise equipment, chemicals and materials for lessons.

  • Clean, maintain and check laboratory equipment.

  • Keep stock levels up to date and assist with ordering.

  • Support teachers during practical lessons where needed.

  • Follow COSHH, health and safety and school procedures.

  • Keep laboratories and preparation areas organised.

The Person

  • Previous experience as a Science Technician or in a laboratory setting.

  • Good practical knowledge of science and laboratory equipment.

  • Understanding of safe chemical handling and laboratory procedures.

  • Well organised with strong attention to detail.

  • Able to manage a busy workload and work without constant supervision.

  • Reliable and confident working as part of a school science department.

Experience supporting GCSE practical work would be beneficial.

Working Hours

The role will generally follow school opening times, with a typical pattern of Monday to Thursday, 8:30am–4:30pm, and Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm.
