Attendance Officer - Primary School - Bromley

Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Dependent on experience

A welcoming Primary School in the London Borough of Bromley is seeking a committed and organised Attendance Officer to join its administration and pastoral support team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is a varied position for someone who understands the importance of regular attendance and enjoys working directly with pupils and families. You will take responsibility for monitoring attendance and punctuality, identifying concerns and working with school staff and parents to encourage positive attendance habits.

The successful candidate will be responsible for checking registers each morning, following up unexplained absences and ensuring attendance information is accurately recorded. You will use the school's management information system to monitor attendance and identify pupils whose attendance or punctuality may require additional support.

Rather than simply recording absences, the role will involve working with families to understand potential barriers to attendance. You will maintain regular communication with parents and carers, arrange meetings where appropriate and work alongside the school's pastoral and safeguarding teams.

School Information

This is a well-established Primary School in Bromley with a strong commitment to high standards, pupil wellbeing and creating an environment where children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

The school values strong relationships with families and recognises that effective communication between home and school is an important part of supporting pupils.

Children are encouraged to become confident and independent learners and benefit from a broad curriculum, positive behaviour expectations and a supportive pastoral structure.

The successful Attendance Officer will become an important part of the school's wider support team, working closely with teachers, senior leaders, parents and external professionals where necessary.

Monitor daily pupil attendance

Check registers for missing or incorrect information

Follow up unexplained absences

Contact parents and carers regarding attendance

Monitor persistent absence and patterns of non-attendance

Monitor lateness and punctuality

Maintain accurate attendance records

Produce attendance reports for senior leaders

Arrange attendance meetings with families

Record interventions and agreed actions

Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff

Liaise with external agencies where required

Support attendance improvement initiatives

Promote the importance of regular attendance

Maintain confidential pupil and family information

You will need to be persistent without being confrontational and able to have sensitive conversations with families while maintaining a professional and supportive approach.

Attendance Officer - Experience and Qualifications

The school is looking for someone with:

Previous attendance, pastoral or school administration experience

Strong organisational and administrative abilities

Confidence working with attendance information

Experience using Arbor, Bromcom or SIMS desirable

Ability to maintain accurate confidential records

Calm and professional approach

Confidence communicating with parents and carers

Commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare

Experience working with families or children would be advantageous, particularly where this has involved handling sensitive information or supporting pupils with barriers to attendance.

The successful candidate will work as part of a wider team rather than operating independently. You will have regular contact with teaching staff, senior leaders and families and will contribute to discussions about pupils whose attendance is causing concern.

The role can be particularly rewarding because effective attendance support can have a direct impact on a child's academic progress, friendships, confidence and wider experience of school.

The school is looking for someone who is approachable, organised and genuinely committed to helping children attend school regularly and engage positively with their education.

The salary for this Attendance Officer position will be dependent on experience.
