Role Overview
A community-focused secondary school in Merseyside is seeking an organized, proactive, and resilient Attendance Officer to join their student support and pastoral team ASAP. In this vital role, you will take operational responsibility for tracking, recording, and improving student attendance and punctuality. Working alongside Heads of Year, Safeguarding Leads, and external support agencies, you will implement effective interventions to reduce persistent absence, conduct welfare checks, and establish positive, supportive relationships with families across the local community.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily attendance recording, manage first-day absence communications, and record unexplained absences using school management software (e.g., SIMS, Arbor).

Analyse attendance metrics to identify patterns of absenteeism early and coordinate targeted support plans for vulnerable students.

Lead parent consultations, conduct home visits, and establish structured attendance agreements to address ongoing attendance barriers.

Collaborate with local authority Education Welfare Officers (EWOs), social care teams, and safeguarding staff regarding statutory action and enforcement processes.

Prepare regular attendance summaries, reporting progress and key statistics to the Senior Leadership Team and school governors.
Key Requirements

Direct experience working in an attendance, pastoral, or student support role within a secondary school or local authority setting.

Proficiency in school database systems (SIMS, Arbor, or equivalent) alongside strong data administration and IT skills.

Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trust with families while maintaining clear expectations.

Working knowledge of national attendance legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and child protection guidelines.

Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for local home visits (preferred).

Legal right to work in the UK.
