A friendly and forward-thinking primary school in Abingdon is seeking a reliable and proactive Administrative Assistant to support the smooth day-to-day running of the school office. This is a key front-facing role, essential to ensuring pupils, staff, parents and visitors receive a professional, efficient and warm service.

About the Role

The Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Headteacher, School Business Manager and wider staff team to provide high-quality administrative and organisational support. You will be responsible for managing office tasks, maintaining accurate records and acting as a first point of contact for parents and visitors, helping to ensure the school operates effectively and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support, including data entry, filing and record management
  • Act as a first point of contact for parents, visitors and external agencies, both in person and by telephone/email
  • Maintain accurate pupil records and support attendance monitoring
  • Assist with diary management, meeting coordination and minute-taking
  • Support school communications, including letters, newsletters and website updates
  • Process invoices, orders and general financial administration (where applicable)
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations
  • Support school events, admissions processes and wider administrative functions

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in an administrative or office-based role, ideally within education or a public-facing environment
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and school management systems (e.g. SIMS or Arbor desirable)
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality within a primary school setting
  • Flexible, proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Legal right to work in the UK
