As the Reliability Engineer you will be based on our client’s site and will be responsible for improving asset performance and reducing downtime. The role combines first‑line mechanical and electrical breakdown response with proactive reliability engineering. This includes analysing asset performance, identifying failure modes, and implementing strategies that enhance equipment reliability and optimise lifecycle costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Asset Management: Support implementation of reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs.
  • Asset Care Assessment: Conduct assessments with clients to review Reliability Pillars to understand existing practices, identify weaknesses/risks to enhance reliability, efficiency and aid strategic decision making.
  • Data‑Driven Decision Making: Analyse maintenance and asset performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Develop and track KPIs: Utilising data analytics to optimise maintenance interventions related to equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness (OEE, MTBF, MTTR, etc.).
  • Failure Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) for asset failures and chronic issues.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Drive innovation in reliability engineering, adopting new technologies and methodologies.
  • Training & Development: Build technical competency within maintenance teams to enhance understanding of reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM) principles.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with site teams to drive condition monitoring (vibration, thermography, oil analysis, etc.) and embed long‑term asset reliability goals.
  • Site support: Support maintenance and operations teams on reliability issues, best practices, and preventive maintenance strategies.

Skills and Experiences

  • Advanced knowledge of reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance, and asset integrity.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) for work tracking and reporting.
  • Proficiency in statistical reliability modelling and condition monitoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with ISO 55000 Certification – Asset management standard knowledge for strategic reliability planning.
  • Forward‑looking mindset for long‑term reliability planning and capital investment recommendations.
  • Ability to lead major reliability initiatives, integrating emerging technologies such as IoT‑enabled predictive maintenance.
  • Process optimisation skills to enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Ability to mentor and guide teams, fostering a culture of proactive reliability improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder management, effectively communicating technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Decision‑making capability under pressure with an emphasis on risk management.

Specific Qualifications

  • Level 3 mechanical engineering qualification [ECITB & CompEx Ex11 are desirable].
  • Level 3 Diploma / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation [18th Edition is desirable].
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ARP, CMRP, CRL) are desirable.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Certification are desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance, reliability, or engineering roles.
  • Hands‑on experience with predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering tools and methods (RCM, RCA, FMEA, Weibull, etc.).
  • Experience with CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo) and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
