We are seeking qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineers to join our Projects Team based on site in Burton Latimer. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be part of an onsite installation team delivering varied engineering projects — from new asset installations and equipment upgrades to commissioning, shutdowns and major capital works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, assemble, and commission mechanical equipment as part of project works.
  • Interpret project drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications to complete installations correctly.
  • Ensure all installation work aligns with project timelines, quality standards, and client requirements.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical installation issues during project builds.
  • Provide mechanical support during snagging, pre-commissioning, and final commissioning phases.
  • Support shutdowns, planned outages, and major capital work as required.
  • Work with project engineers, supervisors, and contractors to deliver project scopes.
  • Provide technical input during project planning, equipment positioning, and system layout.
  • Support equipment moves, upgrades, and new asset installations.
  • Follow all site safety procedures, RAMS, permit-to-work systems, and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and ensure safe working practices at all times.
  • Identify hazards and escalate any unsafe conditions or potential project risks.
  • Work to food safe engineering practices including clean construction, correct material selection (e.g., stainless steel), and controlled tool/fastener use.
  • Ensure installation work does not compromise food safety, allergen controls, or environmental segregation.

Skills, Experiences & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading engineering projects, delivering work safely and on time.
  • Experience supervising teams and promoting high standards of safety, quality, and communication.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Qualified in welding, fabrication, or mechanical installation, with practical assembly and fitting experience.
  • Strong mechanical fitting skills, including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, and food-grade equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, layouts, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with hygienic engineering and stainless-steel installations in food production environments.
  • Competent in mechanical alignment, levelling, torquing, and tensioning.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing safety, hygiene, and contamination control requirements.
  • Understanding of RAMS, permit-to-work systems, LOTO/isolation, and confined space procedures.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve installation issues.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors, and production teams.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, testing, verification, and handover activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, digital reporting, and engineering documentation systems.
  • Strong organisational skills, managing materials, tools, permits, and workloads effectively.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills in fast-paced environments.
  • Flexible and adaptable, including working during shutdowns and critical project periods.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
