We are looking for an experienced Technical Sales Manager to join our team. In this role, you will drive new business growth, develop and maintain strong customer relationships, and deliver technically robust compressed air solutions across a wide range of industries. Combining technical expertise with commercial insight, you will be responsible for understanding customer needs, conducting site surveys, designing efficient compressed air systems, and preparing tailored proposals. Your solutions will help customers improve operational performance, increase reliability, and achieve significant energy savings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales & Business Development
    • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within assigned territories and target markets.
    • Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers through regular visits and account management.
    • Generate and follow up on sales leads from marketing activities, referrals, and prospecting efforts.
    • Achieve and exceed sales targets for equipment, service contracts, and ancillary products.
    • Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations and proposals.
  • Technical Support & Solution Design
    • Conduct customer site surveys and compressed air system assessments.
    • Analyse customer applications and recommend appropriate compressor technologies, air treatment equipment, and system layouts.
    • Size and specify compressed air equipment including: Rotary screw compressors, Oil-free compressors, Air dryers, Filtration systems, Receivers and ancillary equipment, Energy recovery solutions, data logging.
    • Produce technical quotations, system recommendations, and cost-benefit analyses.
    • Provide energy efficiency and compressed air optimisation recommendations.
  • Project Management & Customer Liaison
    • Coordinate with service, engineering, and installation teams to ensure successful project delivery.
    • Attend customer meetings and technical discussions throughout the sales cycle.
    • Ensure projects meet customer specifications, health and safety requirements, and commercial expectations.
    • Assist (when required) the project department with installations.
  • Market & Industry Knowledge
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of compressed air technologies, industry trends, and competitor offerings.
    • Monitor market developments and identify emerging business opportunities.
  • Reporting & Administration
    • Maintain accurate customer records using CRM systems.
    • Produce sales forecasts, pipeline updates, and activity reports.
    • Ensure all quotations and documentation comply with company standards.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a technical sales role within the compressed air, industrial equipment, engineering, or related sector.
  • Strong technical understanding of compressed air systems and associated equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Proven ability to generate new business and achieve sales targets.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience conducting compressed air audits and energy efficiency assessments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 8573 air quality standards.
  • Understanding of industrial manufacturing environments and production processes.
  • Experience with compressor control systems and monitoring technology.
