As the SHEQ Advisor, you will provide professional health, safety and environmental support and guidance to our Facilities Services division. It is a position of significant importance and leadership within the business. The role requires motivation, excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to support and challenge others to achieve outstanding results. The scope of the role includes the customer services centre, mobile engineering teams and operational sites across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the health, safety and environment strategy and tactical plans across the business to improve year-on-year performance.
- Drive the development of a positive and high-profile health, safety and environmental culture across the business and at sites.
- Coach and support business leaders, operational site managers and supervisors so that they understand and embrace their roles and responsibilities and lead by example.
- Oversee ongoing implementation of the business management system and ensure compliance with relevant legal requirements, 3rd party accreditations and ISO standards through effective assurance processes at business and site level.
- Carry out regular and ongoing operational audits and inspections to achieve health, safety and environmental compliance at site level, report back findings and ensure corrective actions are in place.
- Deliver on health, safety and environmental performance targets and ensure accurate reporting against KPIs to business leaders.
- Lead Safety Committee Meetings and act on feedback.
- Work closely with Facilities Services clients and sub-contractors to build alignment with our approach to health, safety and environment.
- Provide technical health and safety advice in accordance with current legislation and good practice, including CDM.
- Design and support the implementation of risk control techniques, promote the use of suitable resources and oversee systems to manage risks effectively across the business and at sites.
- Carry out required incident investigations to ensure that they are dealt with appropriately and that incident root causes are identified and acted upon.
- Assist in occupational health matters relating to the physical and mental health of staff with the appropriate level of intervention, to ensure the correct advice and direction is given to the workforce at all levels and that a consistent response is provided by our supporting professionals.
Skills and Experiences:
- Technical and operational competences with the ability to create pragmatic solutions to deliver objectives.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to adopt different approaches and styles of influencing to foster effective working relations with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, at both business and site level.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to deliver business compliance messages in clear and appropriate manners and build credibility with business leaders and site personnel.
Specific Qualifications:
- An excellent working knowledge of current legislation, codes of practice, guidance and operating procedures.
- Proven track record of success in implementing effective management systems compliant with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Can demonstrate continued development with the health, safety and environmental discipline. Ideally already Tech IOSH (or heading towards Cert IOSH / CMIOSH) and relevant qualifications.
