We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our process team based in Swadlincote. This role involves designing mechanical systems and components that support and enhance manufacturing and industrial processes. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of process flows, equipment integration, and continuous improvement methodologies to deliver innovative and efficient mechanical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 3D models and designs using Inventor and Plant 3D software, with a specific emphasis on piping systems and related components.
- Collaborate with project teams, including Process Engineers, Electrical Engineers & Systems Engineers.
- Integrate designs and ensure alignment with project requirements and specifications.
- Work with P&IDs to develop piping systems & layouts.
- Interpret and analyse technical drawings, blueprints, and other design documentation to accurately translate them into 3D models.
- Interpret and analyse technical specifications to ensure that the designs meet regulatory requirements.
- Undertake detailing of models to produce GAs, manufacturing drawings, layouts, weldments and assemblies.
- Generate documentation that will support compliance with the Supply of Machinery Regulations.
- Work closely with the project management team to meet project deadlines and deliverables while maintaining high-quality standards.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience working as a 3D Design Engineer, with a focus on the process industry and pipe specifications.
- Good working knowledge of P&IDs and PFDs.
- Understanding of the process industry, including knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Proven competence with Autodesk Inventor & Vault.
- Experience with Plant 3D software, REVIT & BIM360.
- HNC or higher in a mechanically biased engineering discipline.
- Ability to competently carry out hand-calculations for sizing of basic supporting structures.
- Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address design challenges effectively.
- Good written English and the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with peers and clients.
