Marc Daniels Specialist Recruitment is exclusively partnering with a growing retail business to recruit an experienced Finance Controller. This is a key leadership position within a successful SME, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function and work closely with senior leadership to drive business performance, profitability, and future growth.

The successful candidate will combine strong financial control with commercial awareness and will have previous experience working within a retail or stock-led trading environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the finance function.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and board-level reporting.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
  • Deliver commercial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee financial controls, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Manage VAT, payroll, and statutory reporting processes.
  • Monitor inventory, margins, and working capital performance.
  • Drive process improvements and systems development.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across the business.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • ACCA, ACA, CIMA qualified.
  • Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance role.
  • Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow experience.
  • Proven experience within a retail or consumer products business.
  • Experience operating within a stock-led environment, including inventory and margin reporting.
  • Strong financial systems and Excel skills.
  • Experience working within a growing SME.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience of international trade, imports, overseas suppliers, customs processes, duties, freight costs, and foreign currency transactions.
  • Experience supporting businesses with international supply chains.
  • Knowledge of stock purchasing and landed cost reporting.
