A fast-growing, multi-channel fashion business is seeking an experienced Fractional Finance Director to support its next stage of growth. Operating across retail, wholesale and e-commerce channels, the company owns and manages a portfolio of established fashion and apparel brands and is backed by overseas shareholders. With ambitious growth plans and an entrepreneurial culture, this is an opportunity to join a business where finance plays a critical role in supporting commercial decision-making and sustainable expansion.
The Opportunity: Reporting directly to the Founders and working closely with international shareholders, you will lead the finance function on a fractional basis, providing both strategic financial leadership and hands-on financial management. This is not a traditional corporate Finance Director role. We are looking for someone who thrives in a founder-led environment, enjoys working at pace and is equally comfortable analysing strategic opportunities as they are managing day-to-day financial operations. A strong understanding of apparel, fashion, retail and inventory-led businesses is essential. The successful candidate will understand the challenges associated with stock management, supply chains, seasonal trading cycles, gross margin optimisation and working capital management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cash Flow & Working Capital: Own and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts. Drive working capital improvements across stock, debtors and creditors. Monitor liquidity and provide recommendations on funding requirements. Support inventory purchasing decisions and stock investment planning. Ensure growth plans remain aligned to cash generation and availability.
- Financial Reporting & Shareholder Communication: Produce monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs. Deliver clear reporting to overseas shareholders. Prepare P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting. Develop KPI dashboards and performance analysis. Act as the key financial contact for shareholders and external advisers.
- Commercial Finance & Business Partnering: Provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making. Analyse profitability by product category, customer and sales channel. Support pricing, margin and investment decisions. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and business planning processes. Act as a trusted adviser to the leadership team.
- Inventory, Retail & Supply Chain Finance: Monitor inventory valuation and stock performance. Analyse stock turns, ageing inventory and sell-through rates. Support buying and supply chain decisions through financial analysis. Improve inventory efficiency and working capital performance. Provide insight into margin optimisation across the business.
- Finance Leadership: Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting activities. Ensure accurate financial records and robust controls. Manage VAT, statutory compliance and external reporting requirements. Improve financial processes, systems and management information. Build scalable finance infrastructure to support future growth.
About You: You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with previous experience as a Finance Director, Head of Finance or Financial Controller within a fashion, apparel, retail, consumer or inventory-led business. You will bring: Strong cash flow and working capital management expertise. Experience reporting to shareholders, investors or business owners. A deep understanding of inventory and supply chain dynamics. Excellent financial reporting and commercial finance skills. A hands-on approach and willingness to operate within a lean team. Experience supporting founder-led or entrepreneurial businesses. Strong Excel and financial modelling capability. Experience using Xero and cloud-based accounting systems.
