Job Summary
We are recruiting a Welding Technical Authority who will be responsible for providing technical leadership and governance across all welding and fabrication activities within Maraen Fabrication. Acting as the subject matter expert for welding compliance, procedures, qualifications and quality assurance, the role provides technical guidance to operational, commercial and project delivery teams to ensure all welding activities are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with applicable client specifications, international standards and company procedures.
Responsibilities
- Lead the review and interpretation of client specifications, codes, standards and contractual technical requirements during tendering, project execution and project close-out activities.
- Provide technical support to management, commercial and project teams during tender submissions, pre-qualification activities and technical clarifications.
- Select, develop and maintain suitable welding procedures in line with project specifications, applicable standards and operational requirements.
- Compile weld maps, weld logs and associated traceability documentation.
- Monitor and maintain welder qualifications, welding procedure qualifications and associated certification records to ensure continued compliance.
- Coordinate and witness welding procedure qualification testing, and mechanical testing activities where required.
- Liaise with Independent Verification Bodies (IVBs), third-party inspectors and client representatives to coordinate verification and inspection activities.
- Review and assess welder competency and qualifications during recruitment, onboarding and ongoing performance evaluation.
- Review and approve subcontractor welding procedures, qualifications and technical submissions, acting as focal point for technical queries and clarifications.
- Review and verify material certification, traceability documentation and free-issue material compliance.
- Support the preparation, review and submission of pre-production documentation, including WPSs, ITPs, weld procedures, qualification records and quality dossiers.
- Review fabrication job packs, radiographs, NDT reports, hydrotest records and associated quality documentation.
- Witness and verify critical production and inspection activities identified within Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Carry out pre-weld, in-process and post-weld visual inspection activities in accordance with applicable standards and acceptance criteria.
- Support the close-out of non-conformance reports (NCRs), audit findings and corrective actions arising from client, third-party and internal audits.
- Participate in internal and external audits and contribute to the continuous improvement of company quality management systems and welding controls.
- Support the development, implementation and continual improvement of welding-related procedures, standards and best practices across the business.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to welding inspectors, supervisors and operational personnel to support competence development and succession planning.
- Promote a positive quality and safety culture throughout fabrication and site activities.
- Carry out HSE tours and support incident investigations, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions where required.
- Any other duty which, from time to time, may reasonably be required to meet the needs of Maraen Fabrication and is within the remit of this post.
Requirements
Candidates must have significant experience within a fabrication quality department, at a senior level and preferably within Oil & Gas industry. CSWIP 3.1/3.2 Welding Inspector, RAD interpretation, extensive working knowledge of relevant industry quality standards and codes: DNV, ISO 3834, ISO 9606, EN1090, NORSOK M101, BS 4515. IWT/IWS/IWE would be advantageous. Must be eligible to live and work in the UK with no current or future Visa or Sponsorship requirements.
