About the Role

The role of Group Tax Manager reports to the Group Tax Director and supports various Group functions, including Finance, Legal, HR and Compliance. Its tactical responsibilities feed one larger objective: To continue to develop its in‑house tax capability to manage the Group’s tax affairs and provide world class tax support to Maples Group. We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to support direct tax compliance and reporting across the Group, provide high‑quality tax advisory support to the business and drive global transfer pricing governance.

The successful candidate will partner closely with Group Finance, local finance teams, and external advisors to ensure robust tax compliance, efficient and well‑controlled tax processes, and commercially grounded tax advice. This role is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who is hands‑on, collaborative, and adept at translating complex tax matters into clear business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax accounting and compliance: You will work with Finance to support annual audits and the preparation of tax provisions, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal control requirements.
  • You will lead and manage direct tax compliance for the Group, overseeing timely and accurate preparation, review, and submission of all direct tax returns and related documentation.
  • You will support local Finance teams on direct tax inquiries and audits and assist in managing tax audits as necessary.
  • You will identify opportunities to develop and implement new technology and automated processes to increase the efficiency and control of tax reporting and compliance, while reducing risks associated with manual processes.
  • You will provide training and support to internal stakeholders on direct tax compliance matters, fostering a culture of tax awareness within the organisation.
  • You will monitor the impact of Pillar Two developments on the Maples Group and coordinate internal readiness and responses as relevant.
  • You will support tax and planning projects and advise Finance and business teams on tax matters, including risk assessment, governance, and mitigation planning.
  • You will provide pragmatic, business‑aligned advice on cross‑border arrangements and mobility, new services and markets, legal entity changes, and corporate transactions, coordinating with external advisors as needed.
  • You will support compliance with the Group’s transfer pricing arrangements, working with Group Finance on the analysis of the transfer pricing methodology to ensure each entity abides by the Group’s global transfer pricing agreements.
  • You will ensure transfer pricing master file, local files, intercompany agreements, and related documentation are complete, contemporaneous, and accurate.
  • You will lead global transfer pricing compliance, including documentation, notifications, and filings, and support process improvements within tax and finance to enhance policies, procedures, and operations.
  • You will assist with transfer pricing inquiries and tax audits as they arise and maintain excellent relationships across our finance teams and external advisors, partnering with our businesses and executive team to provide commercially focused tax advice.
  • You will keep up to date on OECD, UN, and country‑specific transfer pricing developments and assess and communicate their impact on the Group.

Experience

  • We are looking for a qualified tax professional with strong technical credentials and relevant in‑house or advisory experience.
  • Professional qualification such as CTA, ACA/ACCA or equivalent.
  • Strong grounding in direct tax and tax accounting.
  • Demonstrable experience managing corporate income tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including review of returns, provisions, controls, and audits.
  • Transfer pricing experience covering documentation, compliance, operationalisation of policies, and audit defence.
  • Experience partnering with Finance, Controllership, and FP&A teams; confident engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Experience improving tax processes and controls; comfort with tax technology, data, and automation.
  • Prior experience in a multinational group and/or Big Four/major advisory firm preferred.
  • Typically, 5+ years relevant experience, though we will consider strong candidates with differing backgrounds.

Skills and Competencies

  • You combine technical excellence with commercial judgement and strong execution.
  • Deep technical expertise in corporate tax compliance, tax accounting, and transfer pricing, with the ability to simplify complexity and communicate clearly.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a robust controls mindset.
