Project: £80m Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) Development

Salary: £65,000-£70,000 + £7,000 Car Allowance + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join one of the UK's leading Tier 1 main contractors, delivering a flagship £80m purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Leicester. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role on a landmark city-centre development from pre-construction through to completion, working within a highly respected regional construction team renowned for delivering complex, high-quality projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Director, you will take ownership of the design management process, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme, quality and commercial objectives. You will coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, specialist subcontractors and client stakeholders to drive design excellence and ensure information is delivered in accordance with the construction programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design process throughout all project phases.
  • Coordinate consultants, architects, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Manage design deliverables to ensure information is issued accurately and on programme.
  • Chair design team meetings and provide clear direction to all stakeholders.
  • Review technical submissions for buildability, compliance, quality and value engineering opportunities.
  • Work closely with the commercial, planning and site delivery teams to mitigate design-related risks.
  • Ensure statutory approvals, Building Regulations and planning conditions are achieved.
  • Monitor design change and ensure effective communication across the project team.
  • Support procurement by providing technical input into subcontract packages.
  • Promote best practice in digital construction and BIM processes where applicable.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager with a recognised main contractor.
  • Previous experience delivering large-scale residential, student accommodation, mixed-use or high-rise projects valued at £40m+.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, design coordination and technical detailing.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and current UK Building Regulations.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline.
