An excellent opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded and detail-focused Compliance Solicitor (4–5 PQE) to join a leading UK law firm in-house Risk & Compliance team on a permanent basis. Based in our Birmingham office five days a week, this role sits at the heart of a fast-paced, regulated legal environment and plays a key part in upholding and developing our compliance and risk management framework. This is a hands-on role for a proactive legal professional who can combine deep regulatory knowledge with a practical, business-focused approach. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure ongoing adherence to legal, regulatory, and professional obligations, while helping to embed a strong culture of risk awareness and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical, commercially aware legal advice on a wide range of compliance and regulatory issues.
- Advise on and support compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations, AML/CTF requirements, GDPR, and related frameworks.
- Assist in reviewing, updating, and implementing internal compliance policies and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits, file reviews, and contribute to regulatory reporting and oversight activities.
- Respond to day-to-day compliance queries from legal and business support teams, offering timely and effective guidance.
- Investigate and report on breaches, complaints, or regulatory concerns, working closely with senior stakeholders.
- Support the development and delivery of internal compliance training and awareness initiatives.
- Contribute to ongoing risk mitigation work and the continuous improvement of internal compliance processes.
Skills & Experience
- UK-qualified solicitor with 4–5 years’ PQE, ideally with experience in regulatory compliance or professional standards within a legal environment.
- Strong understanding of the SRA regulatory framework, AML legislation, and GDPR.
- Previous experience in a compliance-focused role within a law firm or legal services business is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distil complex information clearly.
- Strong attention to detail and a thorough, analytical approach to regulatory matters.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to provide risk-aware and pragmatic advice.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving, regulated environment.
