Interim Product Risk & Compliance Consultant – Current Accounts & Overdrafts

Location: London / Hybrid

Contract: Short-term (3–6 months)

Business Area: First Line of Defence – Product Risk & Governance

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role - Map Room is supporting a customer to identify experienced Product Risk consultants within a Retail Banking setting. We are specifically looking for knowledge across current account and overdraft products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with existing teams to review and improve customer journeys, with a focus on current accounts and overdrafts.
  • Assess and help resolve issues from regulatory risks to product features and design.
  • Recommend and implement remedial actions, working cross-functionally with Product, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, controls, and reporting are in place and aligned to regulatory expectations (e.g., Consumer Duty, BCOBS, affordability rules).
  • Produce high-quality materials suitable for senior management, governance forums, and audit/review.
  • Help embed an enhanced first-line risk culture within the product organisation.

About You

  • Strong understanding of UK retail banking products —especially current accounts, overdrafts, and deposits.
  • Proven experience working in a first-line risk, product governance, or regulatory change role in a banking environment.
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory requirements, including FCA, PRA , and Consumer Duty principles.
  • Experience improving customer journeys in line with compliance and conduct risk expectations .
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to work at pace in a growing, innovative financial institution.
