In-House Counsel

In-House Legal Counsel (12-Month FTC)

We are seeking a qualified In-House Legal Counsel to support the internal legal needs of our firm on a 12-month fixed-term contract (FTC). This is a unique opportunity to work within a law firm environment, not in client representation, but by focusing exclusively on the firm’s own legal, regulatory and risk, providing advice on a wide range of issues, from compliance and contracts to employment law and corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic legal advice to the partnership and senior management on regulatory, contractual, and operational matters.

• Draft, review, and negotiate internal commercial agreements, including supplier contracts, NDAs, and service-level agreements.

• Oversee the firm’s compliance with SRA regulations, data protection (UK GDPR), AML obligations, and other applicable legal frameworks.

• Advise on employment law issues including contracts, policies, disciplinary/grievance matters, and disputes.

• Support corporate governance activities, including partnership agreements, risk management policies, and board/committee documentation.

• Assist with the management of claims, complaints, and internal investigations.

• Liaise with external counsel where necessary on litigation or complex regulatory issues.

• Keep abreast of legal developments relevant to the firm’s operations and proactively manage legal risks.

• Provide training and updates to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory obligations.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (4+ PQE preferred), with prior in-house or risk/compliance experience.

• Experience working in or with professional services firms is highly desirable.

• Strong knowledge of UK employment law, contract law, and regulatory frameworks (SRA, GDPR, AML).

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present to non-legal stakeholders.

• Commercially minded, pragmatic, and solutions-focused.
